I hope you have all had a lovely summer with your children. I am looking forward to hearing and reading all about their activities and holidays.
Welcome to Sycamore Class, especially to the new Year 1s. It will be great to see the new Year 2s, taller and more confident, I am sure!
It will take a little time for some of the Year 1s to adapt to the more formal timetable of Sycamore Class but we will be supporting them all the way. The mornings always start with reading or Maths challenges or name-writing. Phonics follows at 9:15 and the children will continue to be ability grouped, so they may go to a different teacher. English, Collective Worship and Maths complete the morning. In the afternoon we focus on more practical subjects like PE, Art, Music and Topic. RE and PSHE are important times when the children have the opportunity to chat about special issues.
We will start the term preparing for our Class Collective Worship on the theme of the Weather and will then move on to Harvest. Our main Topic for the following weeks will be Dinosaurs - where, when, how they lived and how they were all different. After half term we will be exploring 2 famous Intrepid Explorers, before preparing for our Christmas Show. You will find more detail in the Topic Webs below.
Mighty Mouse will soon be supporting our Geography curriculum by joining the children on journeys that they make at weekends. He loves visiting new places! More information will follow after half term.
Every day children should bring their bookbag, reading book and water bottle to school. Also, PE kits should be in school every day, including plimsolls or velcro-fastening trainers. All jumpers and cardigans should be named please.
I look forward to working together with you so that your child has a happy and fulfilling time in Sycamore Class. Please speak to me after school if you have any queries, no matter how small!
