Welcome back to school for the summer term, I hope you had a lovely Easter and managed to enjoy the beautiful weather that we were lucky enough to see.
This term our topic is The Enchanted Woodland and there are lots of exciting lessons and activities planned.
The first half of the summer term will bring the Year 2 teacher assessments and we will be required to submit teacher assessments for the National Curriculum areas of reading, writing and mathematics. We are required to use the Department of Education's reading and mathematics test papers along with the writing exemplifications. The test papers will be administered at the end of May and as a school, we keep the assessment process low key to ensure the emotional impact on the children is minimal.
In June we will be administering the Phonics Screening Test to our Year 1 children where they are required to decode and read forty words, twenty real words and twenty made up (alien) words that contain graphemes (letter sounds) that they have been taught in both Oak and Sycamore Class. Although, the pass mark is not yet known, for every other year it has been 32 out of 40.
I am always available to discuss any concerns or questions you may have. Catch me on the door or contact me by email on my class email address:
