Caring to Learn, Learning to Care - All Flourishing as Children of God

Class information

PE

Our P.E. days are Monday and Tuesday.

Reading

The children will be given a reading book and reading record which they will bring to school and take home each day.  Please aim to listen to your child read at least 3 times each week, and date and sign the reading record book each time.  For every 5 days of reading, including the weekend, the children will be given a reward sticker.

Here are some websites that recommend reading books for children according to their year groups.

Feel free to browse!

Stationery

All children are provided with a pencil case with everything necessary for the school day. They do not need to bring any stationery from home.

Spellings

In school, the children will be learning a new spelling pattern each week through a variety of activities and games.  The spelling pattern and words will be available on this class page.  Please support your children to practise these words at home ready for an informal test the following week.

In addition to the spelling patterns there is also a statutory word list for years 3 and 4, which the children are expected to know by the end of year 4.

Multiplication Tables

Multiplication facts are taught and practised in school each week.  To support their learning, the children are given a Sumdog login to practise in school and at home.

Year 3

By the end of Year 3, the children are expected to be able to recall the multiplication facts for 2x, 5x, 10x, 4x and 8x tables.

Year 4

By the end of Year 4, the children are expected to be able to recall the multiplication facts up to and including 12x table.

At the end of Year 4, the children are required to complete the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC).

'The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics.' This is statutory for primary schools.

Please see the current guide for parents.

Homework

To enable the children to secure their learning of reading, spelling and multiplication tables, we would like them to regularly practise these skills. Please support your child through;

  • Reading at home at least 3 times each week
  • Daily spelling practise
  • Sumdog / Learn and practise multiplication tables

The children will also be set an ongoing homework project to complete over the course of each half term. They will be given a variety of different options to work on and can use a range of different media, of their choice, to present their work.  Please click on the Homework Projects icon on the class page to see the activities for this Half term.

Water Bottles

Please ensure your child has a fresh, refillable bottle of water each day. This needs to be taken home each day to be washed.
