Caring to Learn, Learning to Care - All Flourishing as Children of God

Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

In reception, we continue to use the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework to support children's learning.

The Department of Education have developed this framework with the aim of:

  • Improving the outcomes at age 5, particularly in early language and literacy
  • Reducing unnecessary paperwork so practitioners can spend more time with their children.

Alongside the statutory framework, we use other non statutory guidance to support the children's learning and development.  These guidance documents can be found below on the Curriculum page.

Our Early Years Team believe passionately in providing an environment and experiences that are developmentally appropriate for our children. We do not call children away from their own chosen activities where they are highly engaged to participate in dull, adult led activities that have an assessment driven agenda and fail to consider the individual needs of the child.

We prioritise children's well-being because we know that children who are happy are able to learn and are confident to show their own unique personalities.  We join children in their play, supporting and extending their learning during periods of high engagement when important brain connections can be made.
